International Labour Organization

Office of Internal Audit and Oversight

Institution Background

The ILO is the UN specialist agency for the world of work. Founded in 1919, the ILO brings together governments, employers and workers from its 187 member states in a human-centred approach to the future of work based on decent employment creation, rights at work, social protection and social dialogue. It drafts, adopts and monitors the implementation of international labour standards; undertakes research and data collection and produces statistics across the world of work; publishes flagship reports and a wide range of publications and working papers, and a wide range of development cooperation projects.

Internal Audit function

The Internal Audit Office (IAO) provides the Director-General and the Governing Body with independent, objective, expert advice and assurance to add value and improve the ILO’s operations. The IAO’s mandate includes the responsibility to conduct investigations into allegations of financial or administrative misconduct and other irregular activities. The IAO mandate covers all programmes, projects, operations budgets, funds, and activities undertaken by the ILO at its headquarters, regional, country, and other offices, regardless of the source of funding or location.
